Sguardi sul Mare 2026 — Annual Sea Photography Exhibition in Finale Ligure
July 1, 2026 – September 15, 2026
Throughout the summer of 2026, Finale Ligure hosts Sguardi sul Mare (Gazes on the Sea), an annual open-air photography exhibition dedicated entirely to the marine world. Curated by the Associazione Frammenti, the exhibition places large-format photographic panels along the seafront promenade and in key public spaces, turning the town itself into a walkable gallery. The 2026 edition focuses on the theme of “Mediterranean Horizons” — intimate portraits of Liguria’s seafaring communities, dramatic seascapes, and underwater photography from the Pelagos Sanctuary for Mediterranean marine mammals.
The Exhibition Experience
Unlike a traditional indoor gallery, Sguardi sul Mare is designed to be discovered while you wander. The panels — roughly 2 metres wide — are installed along the Lungomare Migliorini (Finale Marina’s beachfront promenade), in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II, and within the Chiostri di Santa Caterina in Finalborgo. Each panel includes detailed captions in both Italian and English, explaining the story behind the image, the photographer’s technique, and the conservation message where relevant.
The photographers featured range from established Ligurian marine photographers to emerging talents selected through an open call. Past editions have included work from underwater photographers documenting Posidonia oceanica meadows, storm-chasers capturing the dramatic Libeccio winds, and documentary photographers chronicling the last traditional gozzo boat builders on the Riviera.
