Finale for Nepal 2026 — Charity Climbing Festival on the Ligurian Crags

September 18, 2026 – September 20, 2026

Finale for Nepal 2026 is a weekend-long charity climbing festival that turns Finale Ligure — already one of Europe’s premier outdoor climbing destinations — into a fundraising powerhouse for volunteer projects in Nepal. Held annually in mid-September, the event combines sport climbing on Finale’s legendary limestone crags with Nepali food, cultural workshops, and evening talks from mountaineers who have climbed in the Himalaya.

Climbing for a Cause

The format is simple and inclusive: climbers of all levels register for the weekend (€25 minimum donation, all proceeds to the designated Nepal project), then tackle as many routes as they can across Finale’s vast climbing network. Points are tallied per route — not per grade — so beginners on easier slabs can contribute just as much as experts on overhanging 8a testpieces. The emphasis is on participation and community, not competition.

Finale Ligure’s climbing scene is world-famous. With over 3,000 bolted routes spread across limestone walls near the coast, it attracts climbers from across Europe year-round. During Finale for Nepal, local climbing guides and the Gruppo Grotte Finale volunteer to lead group outings to crags like Rocca di Perti, Monte Cucco, and Capo Noli — the latter offering the rare thrill of climbing directly above the Mediterranean Sea.

Beyond the Climbing

When you’re not on the rock, the festival village in Piazza Vittorio Emanuele II in Finalmarina hosts a programme of cultural and culinary events. A Nepali food stall serves momos (steamed dumplings), dal bhat (lentils and rice), and chai — all prepared by the local Nepali community. Evening slide shows and talks feature alpinists sharing stories from expeditions to Everest, Annapurna, and the lesser-known trekking peaks of the Khumbu region. There’s also a Saturday night concert (typically acoustic folk or world music) and a Sunday raffle with climbing gear as prizes.
