On September 7–8, 2026, the seaside town of Recco lights up the Ligurian sky in one of the region’s most thrilling annual spectacles: the Sagra del Fuoco (Festival of Fire). For two nights, Recco’s seven historic neighborhoods compete in an all-out pyrotechnic battle, filling the Gulf of Paradiso with fireworks, music, and the irresistible smell of Liguria’s most famous culinary export — focaccia col formaggio.

Seven Neighborhoods, One Sky on Fire

The Sagra del Fuoco is both a religious celebration — honoring Recco’s patron, Nostra Signora del Suffragio, whose feast day falls on September 8 — and a fiercely competitive community event. Recco’s seven contrade (neighborhoods) — Bastia, Collodari, Liceto, Ponte, San Martino, Spiaggia, and Verzemma — each design and execute their own fireworks display. The rivalries are centuries old, and the pride is real: each contrada raises funds year-round, builds elaborate wooden structures (castelli), and choreographs their fireworks to music in a bid to outshine the others.

The celebration reached a historic milestone in 2024 when it marked the 200th anniversary of the coronation of Nostra Signora del Suffragio, underscoring just how deeply this tradition is woven into Recco’s identity. What Makes It Special

Unlike a standard fireworks show, the Sagra del Fuoco is participatory and immersive. Each contrada sets up its display on the beach or along the waterfront, and visitors can walk from one neighborhood’s “teatro di fuoco” to the next throughout the evening.
